Our Chinese Church

(The first picture is of one of the church busses. Ok so it’s not really a bus, but they can sure fit a lot of kids in the back of this truck. In the second picture you see the pastor on the left with the translator on the right. The third picture you see is the praise team, dancers, and powerpoint.)

Here are a few pictures from our church. We love our church here, but it’s a little different than what we were used to in America. However, there are also some cool similarities that make us feel at home. Our church is really a Chinese church, but is translated into Indonesian. The congregation is made up of about half Indonesians and half Indonesians of Chinese descent. A lot of the people here of Chinese descent still speak and use the Chinese language on a regular basis.

The worship, which is really good, is done in both languages, Chinese and Indonesian, at the same time. The powerpoints that go along with the songs are in both languages, and people sing whichever language they are comfortable with. The sermon is preached in Chinese and is translated directly into Indonesian.

The people are very friendly, and the order of service is very similar to an American service.

Hangar Projects

You may remember about a month ago I mentioned building a fuel shed from scratch at the hangar. Well now I finished another interesting project. We have plenty of time for these things while there is no fuel.

Somebody years ago built this lawn mower from scratch to mow the land around our property at the airport. The problem with it is that it has always been very heavy to push, because it's made from heavy steel. My project was to convert it to a self-propelled mower. Now the mowing is done without effort.

The Hulls Family Update

Hello, once again thank you so much for your constant prayers for little Evi and our family. Evi went through the skin graft surgery great!! We were fully expecting her right leg to end up bandaged just like her left leg in order to get enough skin to cover the left leg. We specifically prayed that God would give wisdom for the doctors and provide enough skin on her left leg and her butt to cover the entire damaged area. He did just that, so her right leg is without bandage. So now Evi has been confined to her bed for a full three days. She is being a little trooper even though she is obviously in pain. We were hoping to delay her next surgery for next Monday, giving her skin a full week to develop a good graft. She has had excessive seeping from the wound so it was decided that tomorrow morning she will go into the OR for a dressing change to replace the wet dressing with new. Pray that Evi will recover quickly from this short procedure. You can also pray for Evi’s little body. On Monday morning she had lost over 6 pounds from the time we checked into the hospital, and she hasn’t eaten anything until Wednesday night. Pray that she would eat and get the nourishment that she desperately needs. We are looking forward to next week as we will get to see Evi out of her bed again. She will also be starting physical therapy on Monday or Tuesday.
Thank you so much for your calls, e-mails, letters and prayers. Our family greatly appreciates everything that you have done for us.

Love,
Hulls family

Latest on Evi

The surgeons were able to “harvest” all the skin necessary for “finishing up” Evi’s surgery from one leg…from her left leg! That means that there was no skin taken from her right leg, therefore no scarring and no need to cast the right leg as well for the next week. That, my friends, is an answer to prayer!

This week will still be tough. Evi just went through her longest surgery yet. Don’t stop praying, not only for Evi but for her mom and dad. They need a couple of uninterrupted nights of sleep!

Ultrasound

Laura and I went in last night to have an ultrasound to see our baby. Sure enough he/she was there. The baby was running laps and doing jumping jacks. We were able to get a lot of clear views of the baby. The whole ultrasound process really makes it feel more real. We really are going to have a baby.

We were not able to get any printouts from our time there. They also did not have a way to get a digital file. So we will not be able to show off any prebirth pictures.

Update on Evi Hulls

Here is the latest message we recieved about Evi.

Evi had a good weekend. Danny and Leslie were able to take her out of the hospital for a few hours each on Saturday and Sunday. The hospital has a red wagon, so off they go in search of adventure.
Today, at 1 pm, Evi goes back in surgery for skin grafting. Both legs will be in casts, so next week will be a rough week. Pray that Danny and Leslie will be able to keep Evi occupied.

Update on Evi Hulls

Our friends, the Hulls family, returned home to the U.S. to seek further medical treatment last weekend. During the initial surgery, the decision was made to amputate her foot. There was just too much damage to try to save it. Please continue to pray for the Hulls family as we are sure that this is very difficult for them. (SEE BELOW FOR INITIAL BLOG.)

Evi Hulls

Our close friend and fellow MAFer’s daughter was involved in an unusual accident the other day. She had a concrete pillar fall on her let while she was playing. Her leg was completely crushed. The last we heard was that she still had blood flow to three toes. Please pray that her parents and doctors would have wisdom since there is the possibility that they may have to amputate her leg.

Good News

After almost a month of not having any of our airplanes fly, we have finally received a shipment of aviation gasoline for our aircraft. This is the answer to many, many prayers. Now, we can return to serving the people of Kalimantan through our aviation ministry. Praise the Lord.
